DNA Stages

What are DNA Stages ?

DNA Piano pieces are divided into one of three STAGES.

This is just an indication for the student or teacher to identify what is likely to feature in the music score.

When playing piano for the first time, we simplify a student’s learning process by limiting the amount of instructions required for them to play. As the student progresses, the instructions simply increase in relative complexity.

DNA STAGE ONE

All of the music score is written for the White Notes of the keyboard.

Only 3 types of DNA Hand-Positions (H-Ps) are used:

  • Root Triads
  • eXpanded Root Triads
  • Simple Octaves

DNA Passing Notes are also used.

DNA STAGE TWO

The music score may also contain Black Notes.

More advanced types of DNA Hand-Positions (H-Ps) are available:

  • Root Triads
  • eXpanded Root Triads
  • Sixths (6ths) - including eXpanded & compressed 6ths
  • Sevenths (7ths) - including eXpanded & compressed 7ths
  • Complex Eighths (8ths) - including eXpanded & compressed 8ths, and their additional plus [+] variations

DNA Passing Notes are also used.

DNA STAGE THREE

Simply adds a DNA Guide to a score of any original piano piece.

GRADES

DNA Piano does not limit itself to the traditional grading system employed by the ABRSM, Trinity, or other music publishers.
